Tyner Rushing’s portrayal of Virginia Creel in Netflix’s Emmy award-winning show Stranger Things quickly became a fan favorite. Other notable horror performances include Young Ingrid Kersh in HBO Max’s IT: Welcome to Derry, Skye in Blumhouse Television’s series The Purge, Barb in Lovecraft Country (also a hit from HBO Max), and June Aurora in Greg Nicotero’s Creepshow series.
Tyner is an American television and film actor who got her start in performing arts. She received a singing scholarship out of high-school, and went on to study opera and musical theatre at Birmingham Southern College. Knowing that opera singers have healthy sets of lungs, it’s no surprise that Tyner effortlessly shifted from belting in musical theatre to screaming in hit TV horror series.
Rushing teamed up with Netflix again on their psychological thriller mini-series Echoes. Critics called her portrayal of Maria McCleary “fragile” and “haunting.” Tyner joined the main cast of For All Mankind in it’s fourth season as Samantha Massey. She has also played Liz Riley in The Terminal List, Emma Smith in Under the Banner of Heaven, and Laura Rutland in Murdaugh: Death in the Family. Her film credits include appearances in The Contractor, Jumanji: The Next Level, and First Man.
Tyner was raised on the Gulf Coast in Semmes, Alabama on a farm and plant nursery. She has two sisters, and currently lives in Los Angeles.
