Neva Howell loves breathing life into character roles. “Like polishing a little diamond in a big necklace of precious gems,” Howell feels these fictional people often shine the brightest, and are the most interesting. A great example of such expertly polished diamonds is her portrayal of Ma Kent in the 2025 Superman movie by James Gunn. She reprises the beloved role in Gunn’s 2027 hit successor Man of Tomorrow, sharing important and poignant moments with titular DC character Green Lantern John Stewart. Before stepping into the DC Universe, Howell shone as salt-of-the-earth, sharp-tongued small-town characters like Ms. Crawford in Greedy People, and Miss Roberts in Ghosts of the Ozarks.
Howell’s other notable projects include appearances in popular film and television series such as Burden, The Originals, Mercy Street, Wimpy Kids, Run the Race, Ned’s Declassified, and A Painted House.
Neva trained in Los Angeles with such acclaimed acting technique instructors as the comedy and improv wiz Stephen Tobolowsky, the Chekhov master Lisa Dalton, and the iconic improv and sketch comedy school The Groundlings. In addition to a love of acting, Neva also enjoys writing and directing. She was part of a creative online community called Beckinfield, and really enjoyed creating original characters and scenes for them. Howell’s other passions include holistic health and wellness education.
