Michael Cerveris is a two-time Tony Award and Grammy Award winning actor for Fun Home, The Who’s Tommy, and Assassins, (also Lucille Lortel Award) with additional Tony nominations for Evita, LoveMusik, and John Doyle’s Sweeney Todd. Other Broadway includes In The Next Room, Hedda Gabler, Cymbeline, Titanic and Elton John’s Tammy Faye. Off-Broadway includes King Lear, Macbeth, Abingdon Square, Nikolai and the Others, Sondheim’s Road Show, an oak tree, and The Games at BAM/Next Wave with Meredith Monk and Ping Chong, How Long Blues with Twyla Tharp and T Bone Burnett, as well as Hedwig off-Broadway, in Los Angeles and on London’s West End, and a recently completed run as Ebenezer Scrooge in the Old Vic production of Jack Thorne and Matthew Warchus’ A Christmas Carol at PAC-NYC.
Films include Ant Man and The Wasp, Cirque Du Freak, The Mexican and the voice of Dr Manhattan in Warner Brothers recent animated Watchmen. Television series include Julian Fellowes’ The Gilded Age for HBO, Showtime’s Billions, David Fincher’s Mindhunter, Stephen Soderberg’s Mosaic, and The Knick, David Simon’s The Plot Against America, and Tremé, Gotham, The Tick, Evil, Blacklist, Madame Secretary, The Good Wife, and five seasons as September, The Observer on Fringe.
Michael attended Gallaher Elementary, Beverly Hills Junior High School and Huntington East High School in his hometown of Huntington, West Virginia. He also graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and received a Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities with an emphasis in Theater Studies from Yale University, graduating cum laude. He holds an Honorary Doctorate in the Humanities from Wilson College. Michael is an active supporter of the MS Society and several animal welfare organizations among his many charitable pursuits.
