Alistair Petrie has established himself as a standout actor in some of the most successful films and TV series of the past decade. His most prominent roles include Mr. Michael Groff (The Headmaster) in all four seasons of the global hit Netflix original series Sex Education, Sandy Langbourne in the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning The Night Manager, and General Davits Draven in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Alistair will reprise his role as General Draven in the second season of the acclaimed Disney+ series Andor in 2025. This year also marks the return of The Night Manager for its second season, as well as Alistair’s portrayal of John Sherman in the limited Netflix series Death by Lightning, alongside Michael Shannon, Matthew MacFadyen, Betty Gilpin, and Nick Offerman.
Through his newly established production company, This Red Rock, Alistair is executive producing two exciting drama projects—one in the US and one in the UK. In 2020, he made his directorial debut with a short film based on a new script by David Kajganich (The Terror).
Alistair’s impressive filmography also includes roles in Ron Howard’s Rush, The Bank Job, the Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas, The Face of an Angel, and Sulphur and White, starring alongside Emily Beecham, Mark Stanley, Sheila Atim, Anna Friel, and Dougray Scott, and directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited, Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots). His television credits are equally extensive, including National Geographic’s Genius: Einstein, BBC’s Undercover, the Emmy-winning Utopia (Netflix), the critically acclaimed The Terror, two seasons of Fox’s original spy thriller Deep State, where he starred opposite Walton Goggins, and Sky Comedy’s Funny Woman, starring alongside Gemma Arterton.
In addition to his screen work, Alistair has graced prestigious stages, including The West End, The National Theatre, and The Royal Shakespeare Company, both in the UK and the US. He has also voiced lead roles in several video games, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Flintlock: Siege of Dawn, and A Plague Tale: Requiem.
Beyond his acting career, Alistair is a passionate patron of Borne, a charity focused on premature birth. In 2007, as part of a fundraising effort to support the neonatal unit at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Alistair and his wife not only cycled from Paris to London and ran the London Marathon, but also became the first married couple to swim the English Channel, completing the crossing in 12 hours and 21 minutes.
