Michael was born in Chicago and grew up in Miami Beach, where he went to school. When Michael was in his teens, he was noticed by a local theatrical agent and offered representation, but Michael was not yet interested in acting. He caught the acting “bug” in high school where he took acting classes, and also did community theatre and summer stock.
When it became clear that he wanted to make a career in acting his career, he wanted the best training available and auditioned for both the American Academy in New York and The Pasadena Playhouse in California. After being accepted into both programs, Michael chose to head West. At Pasadena Playhouse, he began three years of intense training, and took courses about every aspect of theatre and film. In his last year, he co-starred with Leon Ames, Lureen Tuttle and Ben Murphy in Life With Father. A talent agent was at one of the performances and offered him a contract.
Michael’s new agent produced many auditions, and Michael succeeded in booking every role he auditioned for. His credits include the pilot episode of Room 222, Run Simon Run, an ABC TV movie starring Burt Reynolds in which he played his brother, The Flying Nun, Marcus Welby, M.D., Myra Breckinridge, and a series regular role in a pilot entitled Bobby Jo and the Good Time Band, which unfortunately did not get picked up by CBS. Michael went on to do another television series, The Little People, starring Brian Keith, for NBC, and guest appearances in The Brady Bunch, Our Time and Dinah. Soon after, Michael played the role of Billy Batson in Shazam, which appealed to the young audiences of Saturday morning television and remained on the air from 1974 – 1976.
Michael recently did The Hollywood Show in Los Angeles and was greeted by fans both young and old. AMC’s Comic Book Men has invited Michael to make a guest appearance on the show, which will air this coming Fall.
